At Ripon Cathedral we are celebrating ten years of the strategic vision, Growing God’s Kingdom. This has shaped how we seek to serve the people and communities of the region in 5 important areas:
- worship and music;
- supporting the Bishop and diocese of Leeds;
- sharing our spiritual and built heritage with visitors and pilgrims; responding to the needs of local and regional communities - with a focus on rural issues; and
- responding to climate change.
Growing God’s Kingdom acknowledges our call to follow Christ’s example and to continue his work for the benefit of all people. We aim to be here for everyone, people of all faiths and none.
Many people assume that cathedrals are well-funded, supported by the Church of England and government. In fact, we spend £6000 a day keeping the cathedral open and thriving, X% of which we have to raise ourselves through donations, grants and commercial activities. Maintaining our great cathedral for the benefit of future generations will require spending yet more.
We are now reviewing priorities and are keen to learn from as many people as possible to help shape our mission for the next 5 years.
