Context
In support of the ambition set out in the Careers Statutory Guidance for all teachers and subject staff to link curriculum learning with careers, the Department for Education has funded the Careers & Enterprise Company to deliver a pilot project testing the exemplification of careers education within initial teacher education (ITE) programmes.
To build a stronger understanding of existing approaches and the conditions for success when embedding careers education in ITE, the Gatsby Foundation has funded some additional research. On behalf of Careers & Enterprise Company, their appointed evaluation partner, International Centre for Guidance Studies, are conducting a short online survey for ITE providers.
The survey explores:
· providers’ current understanding of careers education
· the extent to which careers education and related areas are addressed in programmes
· providers’ willingness to engage with additional careers education content
· perceived challenges in engaging with careers education content
We would be grateful if you could share this survey with appropriate colleagues within your organisation to complete.
What is this survey about?
This survey asks about how your initial teacher education provision addresses careers, pathways, transitions, careers education, and related areas. It forms part of a wider study exploring the place of these themes within initial teacher education. It should be completed as a single institutional response by the colleague, or group of colleagues, best placed to comment on these aspects of provision.
By careers education we are referring to activities that inform and support young people regarding education and training, pathway and career decisions, both for their key transition points and throughout their lives.
