Fortia Insight has been commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to review the requirements for the public health nursing offer for school-age children. The review aims to develop a robust understanding of how school nursing services are currently delivered across England, including variations in workforce models, service configuration, safeguarding activity, prevention work, digital delivery, and integration with wider children's services.
The review will also explore how services operate in practice, the pressures and challenges they face, and what future models of delivery could best support children, young people and families. Findings will be used to inform future policy development and support DHSC in considering evidence-based options for the future school nursing offer.
Why are you being asked to take part?
As part of this review, we are seeking the views of professionals involved in leading and delivering school nursing services. Your experience and insight are critical in helping us understand how services currently operate, the factors that support or constrain delivery, and how school nursing could evolve in the future.
Whether you are a provider lead, service manager, team leader or frontline practitioner, your feedback will help build a national picture of current practice and identify opportunities for improvement. By participating, you will play an important role in informing future service development and ensuring that recommendations are grounded in the realities of school nursing delivery.
Your feedback can help us to understand what is working well, the challenges services face, and where improvements could be made. This process is focused on learning and improvement, with the aim of strengthening support for children, young people and families through a sustainable and effective school nursing offer.
What is involved in taking part?
The survey should take no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete.
We encourage respondents to draw on their own knowledge and experience when completing the survey. If you feel that another colleague is better placed to answer some or all of the questions, please feel free to share the survey link with them.
At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to express interest in taking part in a follow-up interview or focus group. Participation in any further research activities is entirely voluntary.
How will the data you provide be handled?
If you take part, your privacy will always be protected. This means that nobody outside the research team will know that you as an individual are taking part. All data (e.g. contact details) will be stored securely. We take the security of the personal data we hold seriously and have policies and procedures in place to safeguard it from loss, misuse and improper disclosure.
All Fortia Insight staff use encrypted laptops. All files containing personal data are password protected. Any paper copies of personal information are stored securely and disposed of when no longer required.
We will remove personal details from survey responses wherever possible. Any contact details provided for follow-up interviews or focus groups will be stored separately from survey responses. Any other identifying information will be minimised. Participants have the right to withdraw their consent and be removed from the active research up until the point at which their responses have been anonymised.
All data collected through this evaluation will be treated in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
