Introduction

The Department for Transport’s Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) technical guidance for local authorities was last published in 2017. Following the recent publication of the third Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS3), and Active Travel England’s delivery plan ‘Worth Every Step’, this survey sets out to gather responses relating to current practice and opinions on using LCWIP guidance from across active travel and wider transport professions.

We'd like to find out what works well, what doesn’t, and what has changed over the last few years.

This survey contains some open-ended questions, the level of detail provided is up to you. As a guide, consider spending 15 to 25 minutes – answers do not have to be in full sentences. All feedback is appreciated and will inform the development of the next LCWIP guidance.

For reference, below are links to the publications referenced above:

Print or save a copy of your response

At the end of this submission, you have the chance to either print or save a copy of your response for your records. This option appears after you press 'Submit your response'.

Save and continue option
You have an option to 'save and continue' your response at any time. If you do that you will be sent a link via email to allow you to continue your response where you left off.

It's important that you enter your correct email address if you choose to save and continue. If you make a mistake in the email address, you won't receive the link you need to complete your response.

The responding link sent by the system to continue can be shared and used by multiple colleagues if you wish your submission to have input from numerous people.

The survey will stay open for responses until 18 September 2026
