Background
Over the next few years, we are going to be changing our qualifications. As we develop these qualifications, we want to make sure that we listen to and consider the views of learners.
We are looking to hear the views of learners with recent experience of studying our senior phase qualifications, including national qualifications, such as National 4s and National 5s, and qualifications that are specifically designed to prepare you for work, such as NPAs and Skills for Work. There will be further research focussing specifically on National 1 and 2 beginning later in 2026. During 2027 and 2028, we will be carrying out more research on Higher and Advanced Higher.
Your feedback will help us make decisions about what our qualifications should look like to make sure they are right for learners, now and in the future.
What am I being asked to do?
This survey will ask you questions about qualifications that you study in the senior phase of school or in college, or some other education providers.
You will be asked questions about workload, assessments, grades, and your awareness of qualifications that are designed to prepare you for work. You will also be asked some questions about yourself. You do not need to answer these questions but doing so will help us to understand how well our survey represents the views of all learners.
The survey will be open until 5pm on Friday 2 October and should take around 15-20 minutes to complete.
How will my information be handled?
The survey is anonymous and no identifying information about you or your school or college will be kept or published in reports or presentations. To protect your identity, data that has not been anonymised or analysed will only be shared with those working directly on the research.
Because the survey is anonymous, we will not be able to remove your data once you have started the survey.
Your data will be stored securely in a drive that can only be accessed by those working directly on the research. After the design process is complete, this data will be destroyed.
How should I answer the survey?
The survey is completely voluntary so you do not need to take part if you do not want to.
If you are under the age of 18, you may complete this survey alongside a trusted adult if you wish but please give your own views.
You may receive this survey from more than one source, but please only complete it once.
