Deaf and Deafblind Children and Young People’s Experiences of NHS Lothian Services

About this survey

This survey is part of NHS Lothian’s Community Engagement Strategy for Deaf and Deafblind children and Families . It is being carried out for NHS Lothian by the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE).

The aim of this survey is to gain a better understanding of what good healthcare services from birth onwards look like for Deaf and Deafblind children and their families.

Services include any primary care/community services such as GPs and Health Visitors, as well as any hospital-based services.

The survey is for Deaf/Deafblind children and young people and their families. It is also for Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People working across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

This survey contains 14 questions and will take you around 15 minutes to complete. It is completely anonymous.

The ALLIANCE will combine information from the survey with input from focus group discussions. We will then write a report on people’s experiences, which NHS Lothian will use to direct their planning to support Deaf and Deafblind people have better access to services. The ALLIANCE will also publish the report in BSL and English.

The survey will be open until 30th June 2026.

You can also submit a survey response directly in BSL. Please send any videos via WhatsApp to 07595 453318.

If you have any questions, please contact the ALLIANCE Scottish Sensory Hub by emailing sensory@alliance-scotland.org.uk.
