The Council is consulting with residents about the potential to introduce a school street along Richards Terrace, following a trial carried out in in September 2020.
Roads around school gates are often dominated by cars during school drop off and pick up times and it is important that the area within the immediate vicinity of the schools is safe and accessible for everyone. We want to encourage children and families to walk or cycle to school.
The Council are considering introducing enforced road closures at school start and finish times. Residents, staff and vulnerable users would still be allowed access by way of a permit system.
If implemented, motor vehicles would not be permitted to drive through the road closure during the following times:
School Term Time Only
Morning - 08.45am – 09.15am
End of Day - 15:00pm - 15:45pm
The road closure would be enforced by ANPR cameras and fines would be issued to those entering at these times, excluding permit holders and emergency vehicles.
