Supply of any data will be at our discretion, in line with our data policy and in consultation with partner organisations (as necessary), and according to the data supply agreement (which you will be provided with by this form).

Please note that Butterfly Conservation may make an appropriate charge for providing access to the data that you request. You will be informed of the level of any charge when the outcome of this request has been determined, and agreement of the charge will be sought prior to any data being supplied.
Have you checked the NBN Atlas and UKBMS first?
Since October 2023, we have made available public datasets from the butterfly and moth UK databases on the NBN Atlas. These might be just what you need for your work or analysis. They are:
- tetrad square resolution (2km grid squares)
- all species, but sensitive species/sites are blurred
- up to 2019 (our most recent comprehensive coverage year)
- Creative Commons acknowledgement and non-commercial use licence (CC BY-NC)

The UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS) also has a data provision service. The UKBMS generates transect-based butterfly records, used to determine trends and indices. UKBMS records are incorporated into the national recording scheme along with other sources, but if you only need trends, indices or data from the UKBMS transects please take a look at the programme's data request pages. Data are available under Open Government Licence.
