Didcot GP Surgery Petition

1. Didcot GP Surgery Petition

Ensure the New GP Surgery for Didcot Is Delivered — Back Councillor Ian Snowdon’s Call for Action

Didcot residents deserve reliable access to basic healthcare. The failure to deliver this vital facility harms families, older people, and people with ongoing health needs. Backing this petition supports Councillor Snowdon’s efforts to hold NHS bodies to account and push for practical outcomes.

Addressed to:

  • Secretary of State for Health
  • Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire & Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB)
  • Oxfordshire Joint Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee

• Supported by Councillor Ian Snowdon (Didcot West)

Statement:

We, the residents and supporters of Didcot, wish to back the long-standing efforts of Councillor Ian Snowdon and community representatives in urging the responsible NHS bodies to deliver the new GP surgery at Great Western Park.

Over a decade after residents began moving into Great Western Park, the promised GP facility has still not been built, with the latest confirmed delay caused by the Integrated Care Board withdrawing from an unaffordable developer deal and searching for new partners. This continued postponement has placed undue strain on existing GP practices and health services in Didcot.

We therefore call for the following:

  1. A binding timetable and delivery commitment - The ICB must publish a realistic plan with firm milestones and a confirmed opening date for the Great Western Park GP surgery.
  2. Urgent interim GP capacity measures - While the new surgery is progressed, immediate steps must be taken to increase GP access in Didcot — such as temporary clinical space, additional staff, or expanded appointment capacity.
  3. Public accountability and transparency - We request that the Oxfordshire Joint Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee hold a formal session with the ICB to explain the repeated delays and agree clear remedies.
  4. Long-term health infrastructure planning - Ensure future primary care capacity planning reflects local growth and prevents similar issues as Didcot continues to expand.
