This page tells you all about my research study so that you can decide whether to take part. I hope that you will!

Me:
Hi, my name is Helen Foster-Collins and I’m a PHD researcher in the Centre for Research in Professional Learning at the University of Exeter. We are looking at the support which secondary-school NQTs receive from other professionals and staff, in the workplace and beyond.

Aims:
The purpose of this study is to explore the different types of support that newly-qualified secondary school teachers in England receive from professionals and other staff at work, how this support is sought or offered, and what might help or hinder this.

We hope that findings from the study will help teachers and their educators understand how professionals learn from each other and gain support in the workplace, and how we can improve this.

What we are asking you to do:
You will be asked to share one or two short anonymous stories, about times you may have received support in the workplace or were unable to obtain support in the workplace, as well as some brief demographic information. Completion of this survey should take around ten minutes.

What type of participants are needed?

To take part in this study you need to
• Be a newly-qualified secondary-school teacher, in your first year of teaching.
• Currently working within a school in England
(apologies to those currently working in Northern Ireland, Eire, Wales or Scotland – for consistency we are currently only looking at English schools, due to the multiple teacher training pathways available across the UK).
