Diaspora Eritreans and the Tigrinya Writing System

For my university final year project, I am researching about Diaspora Eritreans’ and their knowledge and interest of the Tigrinya writing system. With the research I gather I am hoping to create an artefact that will help young Eritreans’ in Diaspora to preserve cultural identity by maintaining their heritage language.

I would appreciate if you could take your time and elaborate your answers in order for me to thoroughly understand this issue and create an artefact that would best serve the aim.

1. Are you:

2. How old are you?

3. Which Country do you live in?

4. Do you speak/understand Tigrinya?

5. Do you understand the Tigrinya Writing system?

6.
If you answered yes to the previous question, how did you learn and do you think the methods of teaching you were efficient?

7.  If you answered no, then what are the reasons behind it?

8. Are there any Tigrinya schools in your community?

9. If you have attended/is attending Tigrinya school, what do you think about it in terms of teachers, teaching methods, learning material etc…

10. If you do not know how to read/write in Tigrinya, would you be interested in learning it?

11. What age do you think would be best to start learning how to read/write in Tigrinya?
