Music and sound in contemporary film on creating nostalgia through video game references

1. Brief

 
Welcome to my questionnaire.

This questionnaire has the aim to provide evidence and findings for my dissertation 3rd year paper at Falmouth University, Cornwall.

The question I will be exploring as part of this dissertation is: 'What is the effect of sound and music in contemporary video games on creating nostalgia'

You retain the right to withdraw from this study at any time and do not have to partake within this questionnaire if it deems irrelevant to you.

At all times your details and data will be protected. I will not be asking for any personal details such as name or email as a way of keeping your answers discrete at all times. Your answers to the following questions will be used for current and future research purposes by myself and that alone.

I will be using a mixture of both qualitative and quantitative questions throughout this questionnaire which will be formulated to creating a triangulation of results to use within my dissertation paper. Your answers will be assisted and compared to and by other means of research methods I will be conducting such as interviews via person and over social media platforms. All interviews will be conducted face to face over the means of either Skype or Facebook Messenger Video Chat.

8. Have you watched any of these films? *

 

9. On a scale between 1-5 (1 being no relation at all and 5 being definitely the reason), what would you rate your reason for watching a retro themed film such as Scott Pilgrim Vs The World be based on nostalgia? *

 

10. What would you say is nostalgic about these movies? *

 

11. Do these movies remind you of the past and your past experiences? (This can be the music and or the visuals) *

Thank you for your participation in this questionnaire. The goal is to determine the effect of sound and music in films in influencing and creating feelings of nostalgia when comparing it to video games of the past.

It could be argued that hearing music such as TNT by ACDC reminds people of playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 (2002) or Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones reminds people of the game Twisted Metal Black (2001)
