Airport future capacity questionnaire

Dear ACI Airport focal point,

ACI is currently collaborating with ICAO on a task in the Operational Working Group (WG2) of the ICAO CAEP (Committee on Aviation Environment Protection) CAEP/11 cycle: Task O.05-”Improved Static ATM and Aircraft Technology scenario”. One of the aims of this task is to review the efficiency levels of the Global ATM system broken down to regional levels.

The first part of this study will be to clarify the extent to which the hypothesis, that “ATM efficiency will decrease significantly with increased congestion brought about by traffic growth”, is correct. Therefore there is a need to identify what the future congestion levels could be.

To that end, ICAO would like to undertake an analysis to assess how future capacity plans can be compared with future traffic forecasts to estimate the level of unaccommodated demand that could exist in the future Air Traffic system and we would like to request your support.

This support relates to identifying future airport capacity levels based on FUTURE PLANNED NEW RUNWAY INFRASTRUCTURE in the years until 2030 and 2040.

In the online questionnaire you will find a couple of questions related to expected capacity in 2030 and 2040.

To identify the global and regional airport capacity in the future the questionnaire focusses upon “hourly and yearly maximum capacities" per airport (in numbers of aircraft movements). However, if this information is not available, we can also accept:

1) “yearly expected total capacity (in passenger numbers) per airport”.
2) “hourly maximum capacity (in passenger numbers) per airport”.

In the questionnaire, the critical question is question 4: Expected number of new runways per airport by 2030 and 2040.
If all other information is not available, please complete this question as assumptions can be made for future capacity levels only with this information. The closing date for this questionnaire is September 30th 2016.

Please be aware that all information received will be treated confidentially and will not be used to identify a specific airport / State in any report or documentation but will be used as aggregated (global and regional) data. Any information received will not be disclosed to any other parties.
