This survey is conducted on an anonymous basis, for the purpose of an article for a legal journal. Our goal is to ascertain if data protection is fit for the industry by looking at how the legislation is currently applied.

GDPR: The General Data Processing Regulations 2016
Personal data: information that relates to an identified or identifiable living individual
Special category personal data:
- personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs or trade union membership
- genetic data
- biometric data where used for identification purposes
- data concerning health, sex life or sexual orientation
Lawful bases for processing:
- consent
- contract with the individual
- legal obligation towards the individual
- protection of vital interests of the individual, or performance of public duty
- legitimate interests of the data controller
Industry relevant exemptions:
- journalism, academia, art and literature
- research, statistics and archiving
