The British Horse Council, which represents the horse world in the UK to government, would like your views on equine passports and microchips to help inform our response to the Defra consultation Improvements to Equine Identification and Traceability in England. Your answers will also help contribute to the review in Scotland and Wales. Under the current agreement, Northern Ireland must follow the European Union’s rules and they will be updating their legislation shortly.

This survey is completely anonymous and you can exit at any time. We will not be able to identify individual people from their responses.

Most people will be able to complete this survey in 6 to 10 minutes. If you have a special interest in enforcement or breeding there are optional sections available for you to complete. Completing these sections will take additional time.

The results will be used to inform policy and legislative change. This will include sharing with government officials and elected representatives in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Headline results will be published and shared with the media as appropriate.

The Defra consultation, mentioned above, is available on the government website, and there is a link on the British Horse Council's website too.

This survey contains a number of statements which you will be asked to consider. These are not recommendations from the British Horse Council. They are included so that you can tell us what you think.

Survey navigation: when navigating through the survey, please use the "Previous Page" button at the bottom of each page to move backwards through the survey.  If you hit the back button on your browser (either on a computer or a mobile) you will be taken out of the survey.

Where we use the word ‘horse’ throughout this survey, we mean horses, ponies, donkeys and their hybrids.

Where we use the term ‘digital app‘ throughout this survey we mean an online, smart phone application or ‘app‘, available across all devices - computers, laptops, tablets and phones.

This survey is intended for people living in the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), and will close on Friday 27th May 2022.
