Community Planning Priorities 2021

Our Priorities

This survey is seeking views on The Orkney Partnership’s strategic priorities for the year ahead, which will inform our next Community Plan. The Community Plan is also Orkney’s statutory Local Outcomes Improvement Plan (LOIP).  You can still take part even if you completed the 'Your Community, Your Voice' consultation for the West Mainland earlier this year.
The partnership is made up of public service providers and local agencies who work together, and with communities, to improve the quality of people’s lives.  You can find out more at

The Orkney Partnership is designed to focus its collective resources on a small number of strategic priorities at any one time.  These priorities are used to decide what we aim to achieve by working together.
The Orkney Partnership Board recently came together to review the priorities, taking into consideration the Covid-19 pandemic and associated challenges that are currently facing our community.  They took into account the work already undertaken for Kirkwall and Stromness, the ASPIRE Orkney recovery plan and the Community Learning and Development Plan, which is also being renewed this year.
Below is a word cloud representing the output of this review, with larger words showing the most pressing concerns among those that took part:
The following strategic priorities were proposed as a result of this exercise:
  • Connectivity (digital and transport)
  • Community wellbeing (supporting the recovery of people and communities from the pandemic)
  • Sustainable recovery (balancing the needs of Orkney’s economy and environment)
The Orkney Partnership is now seeking your views to better inform their plans for the future.
