Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will take effect from 1 January 2027. It will ensure that highly traded, carbon-intensive products from overseas face a comparable carbon price to that paid by UK manufacturers were they produced in the UK, so that UK decarbonisation efforts lead to a true reduction in global emissions rather than simply displacing carbon emissions overseas
This consultation seeks views on the feasibility and impacts of expanding CBAM to include a set of refinery products.
This consultation remains open until 20 January 2027.
