On behalf of the Installation and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship Employer Group
The newly revised apprenticeship standard for electricians has been live since September 2023.
While take up has been good, many providers have reported difficulties working within the current funding band.
Since the new standard has been used for a year, and we're more familiar with the demands of the new content and technology, we think it is time to ask government to review the funding allocated for this critical apprenticeship.
As an industry we are now calling for evidence to help government understand the challenges associated with delivering the new apprenticeship.
We will submit evidence provided to IfATE to request a funding review.
Feedback received to date suggests many employers and providers were not clear on the holistic nature of the standard and the implications of additional new technologies and changes. Now with the benefit of delivery experience it is evident that we need to revisit the funding provided, including for consumables, in terms of what is needed, ensuring adequate provision per person and recognising the extended duration of the apprenticeship
At this stage we would like to ask for any general observations on this area, but we need to come together to produce a robust evidence base so please indicate your willingness to take part in detailed work on this aspect if you can.
We appreciate your feedback and insights. Your responses will be confidential, and any evidence submitted will be anonymised, but we would appreciate you leaving an email where we can contact you for follow up.
This consultation will close on the 28th June 2024.
