Active Travel England is carrying out a survey to collect Expression of Interest applications for the Technical Advisory Group. The personal data and other information you provide will only be used in relation to your application.

The Department for Transport (DfT) and its executive agencies, including Active Travel England, are a single entity (or ‘data controller’) for the purposes of data protection law. The personal data collected in this form is processed in line with DfT’s online form and survey privacy policy.

What data we are collecting and how we will use it

We are processing the following personal data:

  • Your full name
  • Your current job role and employer
  • Your email address
  • Your contact number
  • Your career details (Curriculum Vitae)

Personal data is required to understand how well suited you may be for a role in the Technical Advisory Group, and so we can contact you to inform you of any decisions we make on your application or to request further information.

Under data protection law, the lawful basis for processing your data is:

Processing is necessary to comply with our obligations to perform a contract, in this instance, your expression of interest application.

Data sharing

Your personal data is processed on behalf of ATE by Smartsurvey, with respect that they are our current survey collection software provider only.

How long we retain the data

Your personal data will be kept securely by ATE and anonymised within 1 year of ATE receiving the data.

In your personal statement, please provide evidence of the below essential criteria:

You work in one of the following sectors:

  • local government, for example in a local authority, combined authority, transport authority or equivalent
  • academia, for example in a university or other specialist research organisation which focuses on transport, including planning, management, engineering or social sciences
  • professional institutions, for example members
  • non-governmental organisations, for example as a user representative or a charitable delivery agency

You should have technical knowledge in one of the following fields. Proof of technical knowledge may include professional certification or 10 or more years of experience in:

  • accessibility
  • community engagement
  • highways engineering
  • traffic engineering
  • research
  • analysis
  • data science
  • digital tools
  • town planning
  • development management
  • transport planning
  • public transport integration
  • urban design

Other relevant skills may also be considered. 

As part of your personal statement, please also describe how your knowledge and/or experience helps address the unequal barriers to active travel faced by different groups/people with protected characteristics.
