Slough Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Consultation 2026

Introduction

Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2026 - 2031

A new strategy which aims to put people first and prevent homelessness through earlier intervention, is out for consultation.

The draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2026-2031 sets out the council’s priorities to improve homelessness and rough sleeping outcomes in Slough.

One priority is universal prevention, which aims to make homelessness rare.

Another is targeted prevention, giving tailored support to people who are more likely to face homelessness, including people leaving institutions, domestic abuse survivors, care leavers, young people, migrants and people leaving hospital or prison.

When someone is at risk of homelessness, it is important they can get help quickly and are directed to the right support. The strategy aims to improve how people are assessed, how risks are identified, and how housing services respond to help.

Among the proposals is a temporary accommodation (TA) reduction plan, which would strengthen TA inspections and suitability reviews, reduce the time spent in TA, and help people move into settled housing more quickly.

Slough Borough Council is producing a new homelessness and rough sleeping strategy. Before we make changes, we would like to hear your views and experiences - what has worked or not worked, and what the council could be doing to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping, and support residents.

In the consultation, questions ask residents, professionals and those with lived experience to share their views, what has worked or not worked, and what the council could be doing to help reduce homelessness and rough sleeping, and what support would be beneficial.

Your feedback is important and will help shape the final strategy.

How to Take Part:

Please complete this online survey – it's anonymous and should take between 10 and 15 minutes. We do not collect any personal information, and your feedback will remain confidential.

Questions include a summary of proposed changes, followed by a question about whether you agree or disagree with the proposal.

At the end of the survey, you can choose to answer a few additional questions about your demographic information. This section is also anonymous and will only be used to help us complete an equality impact assessment as part of the consultation. This will help us to produce a policy that is fair and equal and identify changes we need to make.

If you need assistance with the survey or the consultation process, please email researchers@campbelltickell.com

Consultation Dates:

  • Start: 1 September 2026
  • Ends: 27 October 2026

After the consultation closes, we will review all feedback and use it to update the policy draft. The final version will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval in November 2026.
