You are invited to take part in a research study concerning transgender rape victims. Before you decide, due to the sensitivity of the topic it is important that you understand why the research is being done and what it involves. Please take the time to read or listen to the following information. If there is anything that is not clear then please ask the lead researcher for more information. Please take time to decide if you want to take part or not.
What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of this research is to bring light upon transgender rape victims within the criminological field and to see if societal views and State ideologies prevent them from acquiring justice and aftercare that is ready available to cisgender rape victims.
Do I have to take part?
Participation in the research is voluntary. You can refuse to answer any questions presented and withdraw yourself from the study within 4 weeks of questionnaire collection without giving reason or sanction. My contact detail, and those of my supervisor, can be found below.
What will happen to me if I take part?
The research involves a questionnaire that will take up to 10 minutes to complete. Your role will be to answer the questions as honestly as possible.
Are there any risks/benefits involved?
The questionnaire will cover topics such as gender, transgender and cisgender rape victims, rape crisis centres, and any experience of transphobia that you may have come across (either personally or through a third party). The benefit of participating in this research is that you will have the opportunity to express your views and to contribute to furthering knowledge on transgender rape victims.
The sensitivity of the subject may be upsetting, if you find this to be the case then details of support can be found below.
Will my taking part be kept confidential?
Anything that is said within the questionnaires will be treated with the strictest confidence and you will not be named in any report. However, anonymity might not be guaranteed if an issue of serious criminal behaviour or harm to the researcher or a third party is raised through the questionnaire.
All references to yourself or other named people will be removed. All personalised data collected will be destroyed once the research is complete.
