Captioned Telephone service in the UK survey
This survey is to find out how many people who are Deaf, deaf, deafened or hard of hearing would benefit from a captioned telephone service in the UK.
The captioned telephone service is where a person with hearing loss who can speak use the telephone as normal speaking to the person on the other end of the line. They will be able to read subtitles/text on the screen on their specially adapted telephone on what the other person is saying. The speed of the subtitles/text has the ability to produce more than 120+ words a minute. This technology has been available in the United States and other parts of the world for the last 20 years and yet it is not available in the UK. UK citizens can only avail of Text Relay UK in this country provided by BT. Text Relay UK has a text speed of 40 to 60 words per minute which is not a normal conversational speed.
It would be greatly appreciated if you can participate in this survey. The more people participate will allow the results to be taken seriously by telecommunication providers and Ofcom. The survey has 16 quick questions and should only take a few minutes of your time. This will help to understand the need and demand for this type of service in the UK and build a case for it.
Data collected will only be used to produce a report of the need and demand for the service. This report will be shared with telecommunication providers and Ofcom to encourage them to have a captioned telephone service in the UK.
All data will be deleted after the report is produced.
