Purpose of the Study
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping primary education, potentially reducing teacher workload. This study explores senior leadership teams' perspectives on AI's effectiveness in easing these burdens, aiming to guide AI integration in schools and influence educational policy and practice. Understanding this impact is crucial for enhancing teacher support and educational quality.
Why Have I Been Invited to Participate?
As an esteemed member of the primary education sector, you have been chosen due to your first-hand experience with AI technologies in school setups. Your insights are vital for understanding the transformation within the teaching world. This research seeks to gather experiential knowledge from those directly involved in applying AI in schools, focusing on its practicalities, benefits, and challenges regarding teacher workload and educational outcomes.
Do I Have to Take Part?
No, participation is entirely voluntary. If you decide to participate, you will be given this information sheet to keep and asked to sign a consent form. You can withdraw at any time without a reason, and your data can also be withdrawn from the study later if you wish.
What Will Happen if I Take Part?
You will participate in a one-on-one interview lasting 30-60 minutes at a convenient time and place. The interview will cover your experiences and views on using AI to reduce primary school teachers' workloads. The interview will be recorded and transcribed to ensure accuracy. All information will be stored securely, and only the research team will have access to the recordings and transcripts. Your data will be anonymized, and any reports or publications will use fictitious names to protect your identity. You can opt to withdraw from the study at any time, and any collected data will be destroyed unless you consent to its continued use. After the study, the voice recordings will be destroyed, and findings will be shared with interested participants. Your answers will be kept confidential and anonymous.
What if I Have Concerns About the Research Process?
You can withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason and request that any information or data collected up to that point be discounted. If you have any concerns, you can speak to the researcher or the module leader at Middlesex University.
What Will Happen to the Results of the Research Study?
The results will be used in an assignment report as part of the student's MA in Educational Leadership and Management. This report may include anonymised quotes and aggregated data to protect participants' identities. The possibility of publishing this paper in academic journals or presenting it at conferences in the future is not ruled out, but participants will remain anonymous. All participants will be informed of the publication of the study results and how to access them.
