Skye and Lochalsh Environment Forum Survey 2022

1.

SLEF was originally set up in 2003 as one of the eight groups formed to define, publish and implement the Local Biodiversity Plans. It worked in partnership with many other local and national environmental groups.

It aims to promote awareness, enjoyment, research, understanding and sustainable use of the area’s natural environment and biodiversity, and since it was formed it has facilitated many research projects across a range of subjects.

As we approach our 20th year the chair and board of trustees are now asking you for your thoughts, views and suggestions. If you are reading this as someone who is not a member we would still value your input whether you are an individual or member of a community organisation or business. It is also the particular express wish of the board to engage with our young people; it is they who will be the next generation which will strive to protect our precious environment in the challenging years ahead.

Thank you for your support.

Roger Cottis

Are you a member of the Skye and Lochalsh Environment Forum?

2. If not, would you consider joining the group?

3. Do you think that SLEF should adopt an annual subscription fee to help fund community and environmental projects and administration?

4. If yes what do you think would be a reasonable annual fee?

5. What are your thoughts on how we can increase membership and wider public engagement? If you need more space to comment please email us at info@slef.org.uk

6. Would you consider becoming a Trustee if opportunities become available? This would involve attending four meetings a year, helping where necessary with any administration and potentially some project work.

7. SLEF is a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SC040820) which enables the charity to seek funding opportunities for environmental project work when required. What areas of the environment in Skye and Lochalsh are important to you and what do you think should be the focus of the Forum's attention? In order to follow up any suggestions or comments please provide your name and email address.

8. We have recently produced the first two editions of our new seasonal newsletters. If you have seen either of them did you find them useful and informative?

9. Do you think that SLEF is still useful as an environment charity?

10. We regularly publish articles or forthcoming events on our Facebook page. If you are a user of that social media platform how often do you look at the page?

11. SLEF has an active website that features news, events, projects, initiatives, educational resources and much more. Can you tell us roughly how often you might look at the site and what further content would you like to see on it, or our quarterly e-newsletters? Examples would be local sightings, articles on wildlife, events or planning applications that may affect the natural environment.

12. The trustees very much appreciate the time you have taken to share your views. All responses and contact details will be treated under GDPR regulations. Please feel free to share this survey to anyone who might be interested. Have you anything further to add?

13. We are holding our Annual  Meeting at 1900 on Tuesday 1st March by Zoom. The invitation is to be found at this link.  The meeting is open to anybody and so if you would like to attend please give us your name and email address and we will forward the Zoom invite by Friday 25th February.
