Who is this survey for?

This survey is for anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis, is caring for somebody with a cancer diagnosis and anyone who has had a loved one diagnosed with cancer and has been diagnosed or treated in Gateshead in Tyne and Wear.

Macmillan Cancer Support want to gain insight from your invaluable lived experience of cancer and the information and support you may have received or perhaps you didn’t receive. This will help shape your local service in the future to support people with cancer.
At Macmillan Cancer Support our aim is that everyone with cancer will know that they can turn to Macmillan and how we can help them from the moment they are diagnosed.

This survey will help us:
  • Understand how people are accessing Information and Support and how we can improve this
  • Understand who is accessing Information and Support and how we reach people that aren’t
  • Develop a service that provides a seamless experience for people living with cancer.

What is Information and Support?

Cancer Information and Support Services give people with cancer the opportunity to ask questions and talk through their concerns with specialist staff and/or trained volunteers.

​​​​All local Cancer Information and Support Services provide information and support on a wide variety of medical and non-medical issues, ranging from coping with treatment and care, getting financial support, to just having someone to talk to. .

Macmillan’s Information and Support offer covers a range of topics including emotional, physical, practical and financial needs. People can also pick up booklets, leaflets, and other information free of charge. Some local Cancer Information and Support Services offer access to benefits advice, self-help and support groups, complementary therapy, or support with issues such as hair loss. They may also offer counselling or run courses to support people following cancer treatment.
