Background
The department collects information on state school employees in England through an annual Census. Collected information is used to update the statistics published in; School Workforce annual publication; Performance Tables; The annual pay review body and, also analysis papers.

Why we are surveying
The department wants to improve its knowledge on who users of the school workforce data are, what they need and how they use the published data. The survey is live until October 26th 2018.

The department publishes information on a number of themes for teachers at different levels, teaching assistants and other support staff, including:
  • Numbers employed
  • Pay
  • Vacancies
  • Absences
  • Qualifications
  • Qualifications in subjects taught
  • Hours taught
  • Teacher to pupil ratio
